Anxiety
The majority of patients I work with have anxiety and depression because the two disorders are linked to so many different traumas, life transitions and other issues. I have experience working with patients whose anxiety or depression is so severe they are in the hospital as well as in individual therapy and group therapy situations. I work with patients to clearly define triggers and sources of anxiety, to create tools for coping and to develop a path toward a more relaxed, less stressful life.
Your symptoms don’t have to be so severe that you are in the hospital for therapy to be helpful. Anyone with any level of anxiety can benefit from therapy. I can help connect you with resources and support systems, help with medication management referrals and work with you to figure out what behavior changes would be helpful.
How therapy can help with anxiety:
- Learn self-care techniques
- Access to resources
- Medication management
- Intervention development
- Learn mindfulness
Together, we take a problem solving approach to current stressors and we develop coping skills. We’ll find ways to bring a sense of gratification and purpose to your life. We will also explore how the past impacts the present and bring awareness to thoughts that may be unhelpful. Through therapy, you’ll discover destructive internal stories and beliefs that can contribute to anxiety and you’ll learn how to treat yourself as a friend.
Therapy is a way to compassionately figure out why you are feeling anxiety and how to go about soothing nerves, finding balance and creating peace in your life. It’s a place for non-judgemental conversation, a place to learn coping techniques like mindfulness and distress tolerance skills, meditation and positive affirmations to feel safe and at home in your body. By going to therapy, you’re giving yourself access to the tools you need to find freedom from anxiety and take back control of your life.
