Life Transitions
Life transitions can make you feel isolated, lost and overwhelmed. Therapy provides you a space to feel comfortable and to explore the feelings, thoughts and actions that are resulting from your life transition. Whether you are going through a divorce, death of a loved one, graduation or the birth of a child, therapy helps you connect with someone who can be a confidential sounding board.
When you meet with me, we’ll talk about the changes happening in your life and how you feel about what is happening. We explore emotions, self-talk and mindset resulting from transitions in your life and talk about ways to move through the changes gracefully. Change is always disruptive, therapy gives you a liferaft to use for riding out the storm.
How therapy can help with life transitions:
- Learn self-care and relaxation techniques
- Identify stress levels and response to stress
- Establish clear goals
- Identify negative patterns
- Develop coping tool
Transitions like creating a family, going off to college, becoming an empty nester, and mourning the death of loved ones are all natural parts of life and it’s natural that they come with an extra load of stress. You can talk to me about what’s going on in your life and I can tell you which of your current coping skills are working while giving you new tools for coping with that stress.
Signs you could benefit from therapy during a life transition:
- Inability to control your addiction
- Lack of interest in hobbies
- Isolation
- Increase in anxiety and depression
Group therapy is also helpful for life transitions because it allows you to connect with others who are experiencing similar life changes, offering an opportunity to get advice and providing solidarity. Whether you are working with me in an individual session or in a group setting, I help you navigate the changes happening in your life.
