Therapy for Couples
Couples therapy is mostly about learning productive communication skills and finding ways for both partners to get their needs met effectively . When I work with couples, we uncover the root causes of disagreement and incongruence in relationships and learn to effectively communicate needs, learn how to work together and get back on the same team. Together, we learn tools for effective communication and for cooperative cohabitation and deeper connection and intimacy.
I meet with couples at my office for in-person sessions or via telehealth. Meeting online also allows for the couples to join the session from different rooms, which sometimes fosters better communication. Together, we discover underlying causes of rift in your relationship, create goals and a roadmap toward accomplishing those goals.
Therapy sessions can help couples with:
- Deepening intimacy and connection
- Restoring trust and creating safe space for each other
- Figuring out your needs by increasing self-awareness and personal growth
- How to get needs met effectively
- Exploring how Past trauma and experiences influence the relationship
If you are contemplating separation and divorce, I can help you navigate through the upheaval and emotional turmoil that comes with separation and the beginning of a new life. I can provide support for those who are going through divorce, teaching tools for more effective communication and for how to get your needs met.
Signs you could benefit from couples therapy:
- Loss of passion or romantic connection
- Broken or violated trust
- Communication breakdown
- Constant arguing
- Unmet needs
As we work through therapy sessions, some couples decide the best course of action for everyone is to part ways. If you come to that decision, I can help you part ways peacefully. I can teach you how to communicate your needs in ways that will increase the likelihood of your needs being met. Therapy sessions give separating couples a chance to talk with me acting as a non-judgemental mediator, helping facilitate clear and smooth communication.
Adjusting to a life post divorce can often feel confusing as one is reestablishing a new identity. I call this stage the disengagement process. I can support you through this challenging time.
