Trauma and PTSD
When triggers get in the way of everyday life, when you can’t sleep or eat, or when unresolved pain disrupts your world, I help you find ways to cope and heal. The impacts of trauma and PTSD never truly go away, but there are ways to minimize their power over your life. As a therapist, I work through a trauma-informed lens to help you get clarity on your triggers and develop tools to manage your reactions. It is also crucial to provide culturally responsive trauma informed therapy, and consider a person’s biological, social, and cultural factors influencing the felt experience as well as the mode of support needed.
We don’t have control over triggers or the feelings that arise when we are triggered. We do, however, have control over response to triggers. I can help you learn how to develop a curiosity about why you are triggered and learn how to respond in healthy self-compassionate ways.
How therapy can help with trauma and PTSD:
- Learn how to identify triggers
- Discover underlying reasons for triggers
- Reframe your mindset
- Learn how to redirect thoughts
- Learn interventions for trauma response and PTSD
- Gain a higher sense of comfort, control and purpose in life
- Feel more connected to self and others
- Feel more safe and secure in your body and the world
When you’ve had trauma, you can’t undo the past, but that doesn’t mean that you are broken and can’t ever feel whole. There are tools to tend to wounds using love and attention, compassion and awareness. Trauma creates cracks and wounds in your wellbeing, I help you see them as places where the light can come into your life.
Signs you could benefit from therapy for trauma and PTSD:
- Trigger avoidance
- Lack of interest in hobbies and life
- Distracted and unable to focus
- Changes in social behavior and connection
- Anxiety or depression
- Overwhelming feelings of anger, resentment, fear and guilt
- Hypervigilant or keyed up
I can provide a safe space to get clarity on your triggers and teach you tools and coping skills to persevere, to change your mindset to heal and thrive.
